Differin is an anti-acne cream used for the treatment of blackheads, pimples and spots. It can cure mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Its active ingredient is adapalene which possesses anti-inflammatory properties. The cream gets absorbed into the surface of the skin, and brings down the number of pimples, blackheads and spots. It is appropriate for use on the acne of the face, chest or back. The cream is meant for external use only and is strictly meant for use by adults and adolescents who are 12 years of age and above. Avoid using the cream if you are allergic to adapalene or any of the ingredients contained in the cream. If you suspect any skin reaction or irritation after using the cream, you should immediately stop using it and talk to your GP or pharmacist. The medicine should not be applied to cuts, scrapes and sunburnt skin. It is not meant for use in case of a skin condition called eczema. In case of women, you should not use Differin in case you are pregnant. Discontinue the use of the medicine if you fall pregnant during the course of treatment. Breastfeeding mothers can use Differin. However, make sure you don't apply the medication to the chest to avoid chances of exposure to the infant.
Though Differin is a mild cream, it may cause side effects in people who are allergic to adapalene or its other ingredients. Therefore, it is necessary that you inform the GP up front if you are allergic to adapalene or any other ingredient contained in the medicine. Some of the common side effects of the cream include: ● Dry skin ● Irritation of the skin ● Burning sensation of the skin ● Redness of the skin (erythema) In rare cases, sun burn, itching of the skin, local skin reaction, flare up and swelling may appear. You are advised to stop using the cream in case you experience any of these side effects and consult the GP immediately.
Differin should never be applied in quantity and frequency greater that what your GP has prescribed. In case of any question, contact your doctor or pharmacist before using the cream. Apply it on the affected part at night, before going to bed or as prescribed by your GP. You should wash your hands thoroughly before and after application. Also, properly clean and dry the areas that have acne before the application of the medicine. Apply the cream with your fingertips on the affected area and rub gently. The duration of the usage depends on your recovery. If you do not see much improvement after using it for 3 months, consult your GP. In case of missed dosage, do not apply a larger amount to compensate for the loss. It may cause rashes or irritation. In worst cases, peeling may also our. Just apply it as prescribed by the GP, at the usual time.
