Testogel is a medicine that contains testosterone. This is a natural male hormone produced in the male body.
Testogel can lead to side effects, but not all who use it develop them. The common side effects of Testogel include: - Headaches - Hair loss - Tender, enlarged or painful breasts - Changes in the prostate gland - Dizziness - Diarrhea - High blood pressure - Increase in red blood cells - Skin hypersensitivity - Loss of memory - Irritation and skin dryness due to alcohol content of the gel
Some of the uncommon side effects include: - Weight gain - Muscular pain - Nervousness - Depression - Hostility - Breathing problems when sleeping - Jaundice - Seborrhea - Reduction in sperm count - Hypersensitivity reaction
Use Testogel exactly as advised by the doctor. Testogel is for transdermal use and thus, needs to be applied on the stomach, shoulders and or upper/arms. Each 5g tube of Testogel contains 50mg of testosterone. The usual dose is the application of one tube of gel every day. Some may require a higher dose and thus are required to apply two tubes every day. The correct dose is decided after testing the levels of testosterone in the body.
Apply Testogel only to healthy, normal skin. Never apply it to the genitals or broken skin, damaged skin, open wounds or irritations. Apply the gel exactly at the same time each day preferably in the morning.
If you take a bath or shower, apply the gel after the bath or shower. Pierce the end of the tube with the top part of the cap. Empty the contents into your palm and apply Testogel on your shoulders and/or upper arms as a thin layer.
Let the gel dry before you wear clothes. Wait for about 6 hours before swimming or taking a shower.
In order to prevent the transfer of gel to other people though contact, wash your hands thoroughly. Wear clothes after the gel has dried. Before you have a close skin-to-skin contact with anyone make sure, you have covered the area with clothes or taken a bath.
If someone comes in contact with the gel, immediately ask them to wash the area with soap and water.
Testim gel belongs to a group of medications called as androgens. It helps treat men with testosterone deficiency. This gel helps to treat regression of masculine characteristics in men, reduction of lean body, weakness, fatigue, low sexual drive, inability to have or maintain an erection, etc.
Testogel is not to be taken as a cure for male sterility or impotence. It should not be prescribed or used by boys under the age of 18 years. It should be kept away from women as it can lead to the development of male characteristics in them.
Use of androgens can lead to an enlarged prostate gland or prostate cancer. Thus, the doctor may test the prostate gland before and after using Testogel.
There can be a rise in blood pressure due to testosterone. Thus, inform the doctor if you are suffering from high blood pressure. It may even worsen breathing problems during sleep, especially in those who are overweight or have breathing difficulties.
Close skin contact with others over a period can cause your partner to show signs of increased testosterone. These signs include more facial and body hair, deepened voice, changes in menstrual cycle, etc. It is advisable to cover the area after application of gel with clothes or taking a shower before coming in close contact with your partner.
One should wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water after application of the gel. Cover the area with clothes once the gel is dried. Take a shower after at least 6 hours before you come in intimate contact with someone.
Pregnant or breast-feeding women should not use Testogel. Avoid any contact with Testogel when pregnant. It may cause development of unwanted male characteristics in the fetus.
