The inhaler is a long-acting bronchodilator that works by opening the airways and allowing air to pass in and out of the lungs without any problem. It makes breathing easier by relaxing the muscles and the breathing passages. It controls asthma and allergic symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing and coughing. Each Ventolin inhaler contains an active ingredient called salbutamol sulfate and lactose. This medicine is meant for oral inhalation only. You should not take it if you are allergic to salbutamol sulfate or any of the other ingredients or in case you have a severe milk-protein allergy. Ventolin inhaler is meant to be taken through the mouth. Read the instructions carefully and follow your GP’s advice while using the inhaler for the first time. To use the inhaler, first open it by holding the outer case in one hand and pushing your thumb away from you. When you hear a click, it means that a small hole has been made in the mouthpiece. Now hold the inhaler properly towards you and slide the lever away from you. Again, you will hear a click sound which will place a dose of your medicine in the mouthpiece. Now the powder is ready to be inhaled. Hold the inhaler away from your mouth and breathe out. Put the mouthpiece to your lips and breathe in steadily and deeply through the inhaler. After some time, remove the inhaler from your mouth. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds and then breathe out slowly. After use, close it properly. Wipe the mouthpiece with a dry tissue to clean the inhaler. Take the inhaler as per the prescription of the GP. The normal dosage is one inhalation in a day and the maximum is four. If you forget to take a certain dose, do not double-up the dose in a single go to make up for the missed dose. Do not stop using the inhaler on your own. If you inhale more than the normal dose, immediately consult your GP or pharmacist.
