Do you have acne and are worried about how to wear makeup? People with acne can wear makeup just like anyone else, but they need to keep certain things in mind.

Using the right products in appropriate amounts can make a huge contribution to controlling acne as well as making you look good and feel comfortable with your appearance. Too much makeup, over-cleansing and scrubbing can rob the skin of its protective oils and can lead to irritation of the skin.

Here are some makeup tips for acne prone skin:

Use oil free primer:
before applying makeup make sure that you use some oil free primer. The oil free primer absorbs the extra oil from the face and leads to a smooth base for the application of makeup. This also makes it easier for the makeup to be applied evenly, on the bumpy surfaces caused by acne.

Acne fighting foundation should be used:
Some foundations have mineral oils and lanolin that tend to clog pores and ultimately may lead to a breakout of acne. There are many commercially available foundations which do not contain these ingredients and which do not exacerbate acne. Foundations containing  salicylic acid or glycolic acid may actually soothe the acne as well as hiding the acne at the same time.

Clean makeup brushes should be used:
Makeup should always be applied with clean brushes instead of your hand, as hands might lead to contamination with bacteria and well as excess oil on the face. Make sure that the makeup brushes are cleaned on a routine basis as any excess makeup on the brush could be a breeding place for dirt and bacteria.

It is also important to clean off makeup every night before going to bed.

Sparing use of fragrances and other alcohol based products should also be considered, as these may lead to irritation and damage to the skin.

Light stokes should be used:
When applying makeup with brushes ensure that you use light and gentle strokes. If makeup is applied with hard strokes it might lead to skin breakouts and irritation.
