Mizollen

Mizollen is a modified-release tablet. These tablets are antihistamine medications. Thus, mizollen reduces the seasonal allergic rhinitis and other allergy symptoms.

Mizollen should not be taken if one has liver problems, heart problems, abnormal ECG, using macrolide antibiotic, should not take Mizollen.

Pregnant and breast-feeding mothers should not take Mizollen. This drug can pass through the breast milk, thus should not be taken.

The active ingredient in Mizollen is mizolastine, an antihistamine. It is used to get relief from the symptoms of hay fever in children over 12 years of age as well as adults. Urticarial or itchy, nettle-type rash in adults and children over 12 years of age is relieved by Mizollen.

Do not take this medicine if you can relate yourself to any of the below problems;

Mizollen can cause side effects, but they do not appear in everyone who takes this medication. The most serious and rare side effect of Mizollen is an allergic reaction to the drug. One may develop swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat that leads to difficulty in breathing. Contact your doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately.

Some of the common side effects include:
- dry mouth
- stomach pain
- indigestion
- increased appetite that leads to weight gain
- nausea

Some may experience uncommon side effects such as:
- anxiety
- depression
- low blood pressure
- fast or irregular heart rate
- joint and muscle pain

Mizollen tablets should be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not brake, chew or crush the tablet. This will affect its modified-release action.

The usual dose of Mizollen for adults and children over 12 years of age is 10mg daily. If you take more than required, you should contact your doctor immediately.

A forgotten dose should be taken as soon as you remember it. Never take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

One may feel sleepy after taking this medicine. Thus, one should avoid driving or using heavy machinery or doing work where one has to remain alert.

You can take Mizollen with food or in between meals. Although, Mizollen is not affected by the effects of alcohol, one should avoid drinking when taking this medicine.

Do not take Mizollen along with other medications without informing your doctor such as: - Antibiotic like erythromycin, azithromycin or clarithromycin
- Imidazole medicines

- Cimetidine
- Ciclosporin
- Nifedipine
